Evil cares nothing about history
…except that it be repeated

In 1753, Philippe Gerrard, a French fur trader living at Fort Niagara in the North American wilderness, receives a letter from a Monsignor at the Rouen Cathedral in France. The letter says, “You have a son. His name is Henri. He is thirteen. The Marquis de Propei plans to kill Henri if ever he leaves the cathedral grounds. I fear he will leave anyway. I beg you, come back and rescue him.”   Taking two friends with him, Philippe travels back across the Atlantic Ocean and rescues his son, Henri. The Marquis is enraged. He persuades Helmut Colbért, the foulest assassin in Paris, to follow Philippe to New France. The Marquis de Propei promises the assassin something this killer desires above anything else. “Bring me proof of Philippe’s death, the death of the son and the mother, and you shall have what you desire.”

But something more than Helmut Colbért follows Philippe back into the American wilderness. Something occult, an evil wraith, centuries old. This demon will clash with a totem spirit of the Erigh people.

The riveting first book of the Tales of the Ghost Eagle series, is filled with adventure, love, coming of age, war and ancient evil. It unfolds as the rivalry between France, England, the Colonial Americans, the French Canadians and the Iroquoian tribes, provokes a war for control of the natural wealth and verdant lands of North America.

Great read recommended!

This story reached out and captured me by surprise. I heard about it and bought it as a fan of historical fiction. And it is certainly that, but this one has an occult thread running through it. An unexpected twist! Love, adventure plots too, but almost without warning this legendary evil appears and the main characters are stunned with how to deal with that, while also dealing with the war between France and England, personal tragedy, and a few other really nasty villains. My only criticism is that the story is a little long, might have been better as two books, but I would have probably bought the second one anyway. There is a follow on book promised soon, which is good since there is still a lot of unresolved conflict. Worth reading. -Supes K

Could Not Put Down Compelling Read

Author leveraged compelling approach to this historical fiction by a deep understanding of history from medieval times to contemporary periods. The use of multiple plot lines through a web of mysticism generates a fantastic read. I can see this becoming a series of books, and/or films. My teenagers believe it should be made into a game. Read all 700+ pages in less than a week, difficult to put down. Hope Quentin Grady continues to write and expands upon this book for the benefit of his followers. YOYOYO

Grabbed me at the very beginning

From the onset this book and its fascinating characters had my attention from the get go. One of the best historical fictions I have read in a very long time. Unlike some long novels, with many intertwining characters and story lines, I did not have to keep turning back several chapters to reintroduce the character to me. The author was able to create these characters with such a lasting impression and you found yourself anxious to see where their separate adventures were taking them. My only complaint is the follow up novel is not out yet. I am hanging on the cliff waiting to see what happens next. Please Mr. Grady hurry up with book 2.

Well written with engaging characters.

I am very much looking forward to the sequels. It took me a bit to get into it -- longer than most books I tackle (my issue not the writer's) but once I was in, I was hooked. It is a unique book. Definitely worth the read!

What an incredibly captivating book. Could not put it down. Go to bed at 2am and get up at 6am until I could finish it. Didn't want it to end. Now I am waiting impatiently for the second book. If this is Mr. Grady's first book, it's a helluva start. The best written book I have read in years.

This was so good!
