Evil cares naught about being found
... it resides in the righteous

It is mid-year 1758. Colonel Philippe Gerrard is celebrating the remarkable French victory over a much larger English army at Fort Carillon on Lake Champlain. His son, Captain Henri Gerrard, has been ordered to sail from Fortress Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island with a company of elite marine grenadiers for future assignment in Québec City, taking Anamosa with him.

Escaping the acrimony of Madame de Pompadour, who accuses Duchess Corrinne VanderMeer of being a spy for the English and ordered her arrest, Corrinne takes refuge in the Dutch Republic, only to face new enemies. Desperate to find somewhere safe in the world, with the assistance of a Dutch Colonel, Corrinne orders Captain LaTour to make a crossing of the Atlantic on the Falcon Queen to the port city of New York. But on the pier in Rotterdam on the morning of her departure, Lady Corrinne suffers an unexpected and vicious attack on her person by assassins using crossbows. These are mortal wounds. With her survival at stake, Captain LaTour sets sail as ordered for New York, presumably a place of safety.

But waiting for Corrine’s arrival in New York is Minister Carlton North, the possessed primary host of the vulnax-wraith.

This seventh book in the compelling Tales of the Ghost Eagle series continues as the war between England and France approaches its sixth year. It is a vivid story of war, of love, of desperate peril, and the occult.

VERIFIED PURCHASE
I recently just finished reading The Emissary.  Despite the size of the book I just couldn’t put it down and finished it in 3 days.  Eagerly waiting for the release of the next volume. There is spirit in the author's writing that places me right in the middle of the stories and makes me feel as though I am right there.  The writing style is a pleasure to read and the storylines and plots are exciting and flow nicely.  The amount of research the author must compile is very evident in the details and exactness of the writing.

Quentin Grady's ability to capture the reader's imagination through his fictional characters while educating about the trans-Atlantic history of the French and Indian War through out the "Tales of the Ghost Eagle" series is outstanding. "The Emissary" story line picks up exactly where "The Abbatis" (Book 6) ended. The strong, brilliant, leader, heroine Corrine has suffered terrible wounds, family and friends are separated across borders, the North American native population is losing and the assassins are still afoot and multiplying. As with each of the books in this series, I can't wait for the next book!
